New Year's Resolutions and Your Health

Tis the season for comfort food, presents, snow and New Year's resolutions! Now that we’re into the holiday season I’m sure many of you have started to plan out your New Year’s resolutions of getting healthy and going to the gym. Research has shown that the most popular New Year resolution is to stay/get fit and healthy. This why so many gyms see such an influx in members the days after the clock strikes midnight. Unfortunately most Americans that make these healthy New Year's resolutions often find themselves off track come February. Here are a few tips to keep you on track and feeling like your best self :

  1. Go with a friend You'll be more likely to hit the gym if you're meeting a friend there because they’ll hold you accountable. Also any difficult workout seems a lot easier and fun when your friend is right there with you.

  2. Don't beat yourself up if you get off track If you miss a workout class or indulge in dessert one night, don't be so hard on yourself. The important part is to get back on track, and not let one slip-up derail your long-term goal. You shouldn’t have an all or nothing attitude but instead Also it helps to remind yourself of all the good things you're doing for your body.

  3. Embrace technology Fitness bands such as fitbits and apple watches aren’t just a fashion statement but actually are full of helpful data. There are so many apps out today that will allow you to do a full body workout without even leaving your house.

  4. Put it in writing Research has shown whatever your goals are, you're more likely to accomplish them if you write them down in a log or a journal. Keep your goals visual, you can’t avoid your goals if you seem them every morning and night.

  5. Baby steps Just take your new resolution one step at a time, don’t rush to get to your ideal body because it’ll come in time.
